Renowned designer Thabo Makhetha has been announced as one of the featured designers at South Africa Fashion Week (SAFW) Spring/Summer 2025, set to present her latest collection in the prestigious ISUZU Luxury Collections show on the 25th of April 2025.
Celebrated for her innovative fusion of African heritage and contemporary design, Thabo Makhetha continues to shape the future of fashion by transforming tradition into modern luxury. Her eponymous label, established in 2009, is internationally recognised for its signature use of Basotho blankets, reimagined into striking capes, coats, and ready-to-wear pieces that honour her Lesotho roots while appealing to global audiences.
Makhetha’s SS25 collection will debut on the ISUZU runway, building on the success of last season’s acclaimed Thetana skirts crafted from recycled plastic. This year, she promises to unveil a collection that “shows heritage in a new light,” seamlessly blending sustainability, cultural storytelling, and timeless elegance. The collection is set to embody the season’s theme of “Quiet Luxury,” reflecting understated sophistication and exclusivity.
The ISUZU Luxury Collections show is a highlight of SAFW, underscoring ISUZU Motors South Africa’s ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and empowering the creative industry. “ISUZU’s sponsorship is a celebration of craftsmanship and innovation, values that resonate deeply with my own design philosophy,” said Makhetha.
Thabo Makhetha’s work has been featured in leading international publications and has garnered numerous accolades, including the Creative Industry Award from AWIEF and the Arts & Culture Appreciation Award from the government of Lesotho in 2024. Her presence at SAFW SS25 further cements her status as one of Africa’s leading voices in luxury fashion.
The ISUZU show takes place on 25th of April 2025, as part of South Africa Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2025 programme, where Makhetha’s latest collection will inspire audiences with its blend of heritage, innovation, and sustainable design.
