ISUZU South Africa is proud to announce that Hangwani Nengovhela of Rubicon Clothing will be a featured designer in the ISUZU show at the South African Fashion Week (SAFW) Spring/Summer Collection on Friday, 25 April 2025.
Hangwani Nengovhela's journey began in Sibasa, Venda, where she was immersed in her mother’s design and manufacturing business. This upbringing instilled in her a profound appreciation for artistry, dedication, and heritage, which became the foundation of Rubicon. Rubicon is known for seamlessly blending African opulence with contemporary sophistication, celebrating its roots while embracing modernity. The brand’s aesthetic is heavily influenced by the historical landscape of Mapungubwe, with its spiritual richness informing the textures, colors, and movement in Rubicon’s collections.
Nengovhela's designs have graced influential figures such as Basetsana Khumalo and Lynn Whitfield, women who embody the confident and authentic essence of the ‘Rubicon Woman.’ Each collection showcases unique prints and intricate craftsmanship, reflecting deep research into themes inspired by natural landscapes and traditional motifs.
Rubicon has achieved longevity in the competitive fashion industry through its clear vision, resilience, and commitment to timeless elegance and African sophistication. By prioritising sustainability through the creation of timeless pieces, sourcing high-quality fabrics, and supporting local artisans, Rubicon addresses environmental challenges and upholds ethical production practices.
"I want Rubicon to be known as a brand that brings something new to the global conversation: a refined African aesthetic rooted in culture, elegance, and innovation," says Nengovhela.
SAFW attendees can anticipate a collection that amplifies African heritage with grace, showcasing Rubicon’s commitment to storytelling through design.
